FAQ
Questions we are asked
Common questions about KANIHIRO — reservations, private rooms, the lunch bowls, which crab and when, payment, and language.
Do I need a reservation?
Reservations are recommended. There are four rooms and only a handful of parties a day. Booking is through TableCheck.
Are there private rooms?
Every seat is in a fully private room — four of them, partitioned by sliding doors. Sources disagree on party size: the restaurant’s own site says 2–12, while the directories say 2–6 per room across 16 seats. Confirm when you book.
What is served at lunch?
Three rice bowls: the crab-heaped bowl at ¥5,000, the house Kaiho bowl at ¥4,500, and salmon with ikura and scallop at ¥3,500. The omakase crab kaiseki is served at dinner only.
Which crab, and when?
Live zuwai crab year-round, held in the restaurant's own tank. In winter, matsuba crab and Echizen crab join it.
How can I pay?
Credit cards and QR-code payment are accepted. Confirm the accepted brands with the restaurant.
Is there an English or Chinese menu?
This site carries the full menu in Japanese, English and Chinese. Ask the restaurant which languages are spoken in-house.
What are the hours?
Dinner 17:00–24:00 (kitchen 22:00, drinks 23:30); lunch 12:00–15:00 on weekdays and from 11:00 at weekends and on holidays, last order 14:00. Closed Wednesdays. One listing records a 21:00 last entry. Listings disagree on the closing time — 24:00 and 23:30 both appear — so confirm before you come.
How do I get there from the station?
Three minutes on foot from Ueno-hirokoji, Ueno-okachimachi and JR Okachimachi; five from JR Ueno. One floor below street level in the Marutoku Building.
